Play, even on a treatment day.
In April 2026, HEAT joined Eggalla’s annual Easter event at the paediatric oncology unit of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The first plan was to support 50 children. As the team moved through the unit, the activity grew to reach more than 80 children in the main oncology ward, the day ward and other paediatric wards.
Something to do while treatment continued
In the day ward, children undergoing chemotherapy could take part in craft activities. Care packages brought books, encouraging messages and more activities to keep children engaged during treatment.
A hospital buddy to make their own
On the oncology ward, the build-a-bunny activity let children stuff and name a companion. When a child could not make a bunny independently, the team helped so the child could still choose and take part.
Care beyond one ward
HEAT visited three other general paediatric wards with care packages and stocked the libraries on all three floors with craft materials and activities. The aim was to bring hope and moments of play to children spending Easter in hospital. The 80-plus figure is the number engaged during the visit, not a measure of clinical outcomes.
